While this might seem like just another "Mega Man is stupid" joke, as would be made clear in upcoming comics, there were actually two purposes to this comic. The first is that it leads directly into how X does end up assimilating Mega Man, which I thought was pretty clever. The second is that it leads into the later plotline involving Bass, not to mention how X uses Mega Man to successfully assimilate Bass.
